I purchased this lovely French text cab from Spitfaced on Etsy and turned it into a fabulous wirewrapped pendant. The cab is polymer clay and has fantastic color and depth that highlighted the French words stamped into it. The sterling silver wirewrapping features spirals and curls that remind me of a fleur de lis. The Belle Epoque Pendant is current available in my Etsy shop.
I was in the right place at the right time and was lucky enough to get a treasury on Etsy today. The Weavers print and Promise earrings were my main inspiration from my Favorites.
I've posted some new spice earrings in my Etsy shop. These are really fun to make since I get to play with the colors found in these plants. Plus, I can do themes like "Italian spices" or "Indian spices." The ones I made recently are mainly done by the color combinations that I liked, so no cultural themes. The above contain chili powder and sage. I have another pair that I plan to list soon which have more muted colors. You can see those below.
My Etsy team, Etsy Team Columbus, is hosting a eco-friendly craft fair at Whetstone Community Center this weekend, May 16 and 17. This is a first time show thought up by local Etsy artisans who wanted
a community festival that celebrated and encouraged handmade,
eco-friendly items. Portions of the proceeds will be donated to Whetstone Community Center, Ohio Green Living, and Local Matters. This event will have everything: live music, great food, information and demonstrations, and, of course, fabulous local eco-friendly artisans and crafters, including me! We're also right by the Whetstone Library, a park for kids, and the Park of Roses, so there's all sorts of cool stuff going on. Visit the Eco-Chic Craftacular website for more information.
This past Saturday, I had a booth at Oddmall, a first-year alternative craft show in Hudson Ohio, outside of Cleveland. My friend Kristin, of Silverflame, and I went up the night before so that we would not have to get up at 4am to drive to the show and set up by the 10am opening. Sales were few and far between. Interestingly, I could have sold the Made-in-China plush Chestburster from "Alien," that was a prop on my table, ten times over. Regardless, the show had some fantastic vendors that I'd never seen before. It was a lot of fun to see new products that I don't normally see in the Columbus craft circuit. Above, you can see the fused glass ninja earrings that I bought from Artistic Flair. Also, one of the most fun and talented newcomers I encountered was Goblin Toybox out of Columbus (I believe this was their first show anywhere). I just had to have one of their adorable tentacled teddybears seen below. When my friend Mary asked them why the bear had tentacles growing from its stomach, they answered "because he wants to hug you."
The Purple Cloud pendant, seen above, is the most recent new listing in my Etsy shop. I couldn't resist the bright pink and purple colors of this crazy lace agate, and I loved that it is triangular in shape since unusual shapes, while a challenge to wirewrap, ultimately turn out more interesting. To complement the unique designs in the stone, I added some fun embellishments in my wirewrapping. This pendant is currently available for purchase.
The new Ohio Jewelry and Metal Arts Guild, which I joined a couple of months ago, was invited by Barnes and Noble to participate in an event that both gives our new guild exposure and, perhaps more importantly, raises money for First Book, an organization that donates new books to underprivileged children to promote literacy. As part of this event, members are allowed to display photos of their work at their local Barnes and Noble location. In my case, it's the Columbus Ohio location on the corner of Sawmill and 161. Above you can see the three photos I chose. In the middle are my brain MRI earrings which were created by printing a frame of my own brain MRI on shrink plastic. Also features are my Onyx Anomaly pendant and pink amethyst Cherish earrings. All of these are available in my Etsy shop. On the evening of May 15th, they are hosting a receptions for all of the jewelry designers involved to present their work in their store.
To raise money for First Book, we are sending out vouchers that are to be used when making purchases at any U.S. Barnes and Noble location on May 8 or 15.
